My Story: Why I Decided to Teach Spanish to Foreigners

Introduction

(Estimated reading time: 4–5 minutes)

If we haven’t met yet, hello! I’m Cristina, a Spanish teacher for foreigners, passionate about languages, cultures and the power of human connection. Before teaching Spanish full-time, I worked across different industries, trained teachers, designed learning experiences, organised international conferences, and even coached TEDx speakers. Looking back, every step has been part of the same story, one where communication and learning are at the heart of everything I do.

Communication: My Common Thread

No matter the project or the country, I’ve always been drawn to spaces where people learn, share and connect. In the e-learning world, I discovered how to design learning experiences that truly engage.

In international events, I learned how communication can bridge cultures and open doors. I’ve also trained teachers to adapt their lessons to online platforms, a whole new challenge that requires creativity and empathy, and supported professionals preparing to work in Spain, helping them feel confident about interviews and presentations.

What all these experiences taught me is simple: communication and teaching both empower people. They help us express who we are, no matter the language.

Learning by Helping

Volunteering has always been an important part of my life. As a member of the TEDx Basel team, I worked closely with speakers, guiding them through the process of writing, practising and delivering their talks. Watching them grow more confident and articulate on stage was incredibly rewarding, a reminder of why I love helping others find their voice.

Finding My Place in Teaching Spanish

At some point, everything I’d learned came together. Teaching Spanish to foreigners felt like the most natural next step, the perfect space where communication, culture and connection meet.

When I started teaching, I quickly realised how meaningful it is to see learners progressing: understanding a joke, ordering food in Spanish for the first time, or simply expressing what they feel without hesitation. Those small everyday victories are what drive me.

I’m now continuing my professional training with the University of Salamanca as a certified teacher of Spanish for foreigners, and I couldn’t imagine a better fit for who I am and what I love doing.

A Love Letter to My Language and Culture

I’m genuinely passionate about the Spanish language and culture: its warmth, its rhythm, its expressiveness.

Living abroad has made me appreciate how unique our way of communicating is, and how language carries so much more than words: it carries a whole way of seeing the world.

For me, teaching Spanish is not just about grammar or vocabulary; it’s about sharing a living culture, full of humour, emotion and connection.

How I Can Help You Speak Spanish with Confidence

My mission is to help you feel confident speaking Spanish, no matter your level.

My lessons are practical, flexible and personal, focused on real communication, not memorisation. You’ll learn to think in Spanish, express yourself naturally and enjoy the process. Whether you’re an expat settling in Spain, a traveller exploring the language, or a professional working in an international environment, we’ll build your confidence together.

If you’d like to learn Spanish in a friendly, natural and effective way, I’d love to be part of your journey. Let’s make Spanish a language you don’t just study but live.
